Business and Entrepreneurship

Nuestra Comunidad and its partners Epicenter Community and LISC Boston lead the Accelerate Boston business plan training program and competition that helps local entrepreneurs start businesses and invest in the community.

The program helps more than 50 local entrepreneurs annually develop their business concept into a business plan, secure financing, develop tools to market their business, and bring it to reality.  Startup entrepreneurs are paired with successful local business owners who serve as mentors as the new businesses get off the ground, grow, and create new economic opportunity in our neighborhood.

District 7 Tavern will operate a beer garden and music venue from May through October 2021 at Bartlett Station. Nuestra Comunidad worked with the District 7 owners to develop a plan for this seasonal business that can help activate the public space in Nubian Square, create opportunity for an established Black-owned business during the pandemic-driven recession, and effectively address issues raised by neighbors around nearby construction impacts, noise and parking. Below is District 7’s operations plan and responses to questions raised at neighborhood meetings in the spring of 2021.
